Abu Dhabi has started a long-term strategy to make the emirate climatic resistant while also providing a vibrant, better environment for its residents.

The “Abu Dhabi Environmental Centennial 2071” will also lay out a plan to become the emirate a preservation leader in the next 50 years.

The vision, developed by the Environment Agency Abu Dhabi (EAD), the emirate’s environmental sector regulator, is in line with the UAE government’s goal of being the finest country in the world by the union’s 100th anniversary in 2071.

It establishes objectives, goals, and strategies that are in accordance with future global megatrends as well as the UAE’s own objectives.

The Centennial, according to EAD Secretary-General Dr. Shaikha Salem Al Dhaheri, “draws three major routes that promote the green transformation, with a total of 12 pillars, 33 targets, and 76 future projects,” as per Zawya.

These are recognized because they go beyond short-term aims, whereas visions, goals, and programs aimed at framing Abu Dhabi’s environment for the next 50 years accomplish long-term UAE aspirations, Abu Dhabi government directives, and core strategies.

The Environmental Centennial 2071 lays forth three paths for ushering in a greener future, the first of which is a prosperous emirate surrounded by nature.

It also comprises four pillars that describe Abu Dhabi’s aspirations to conserve the environment, natural resources, and communities within sophisticated structures in order to maintain a healthy environment for all residents and to make Abu Dhabi the most advanced city in the context of ecological health.

The three pathways

The first method focuses on creating a “vibrant emirate that thrives in nature,” it is built on four pillars: safeguarding Abu Dhabi’s resources and the environment, establishing ecosystems within sophisticated structures to ensure a healthy ecosystem for everybody, and making Abu Dhabi the most sophisticated city associated with environmental health, as per Gulf news.

The second approach aims to transform the emirate into a “climate-resilient green force.”

The use of diverse renewable energy to enable conversions into low-carbon fleets, and the development of resource efficiency with no waste is among the pillars that aspire to achieve excellence and proactivity in climate action.

The third route aims to transform Abu Dhabi into an ecological leader capable of shaping the future and enabling action to protect resources for future generations.

Green legislation and regulations, as well as nontraditional nature conservation, will be crucial in making this possible.

The global megatrends

The centennial plan was developed in response to a number of major global megatrends.

In 2071, the world’s population will have risen to 10.6 billion people, a 25% increase that will put further strain on natural and food resources.

If no action is taken to reduce current consumption, the world economy will be four times larger than it is today, requiring 80% more energy output.

Rising sea levels will force 1.4 billion people to relocate throughout the world.

Increased industrial, thermal generation of power, and home consumption are predicted to drive global water demand up by more than 55%.
